"My thanks to Merit Construction for leading this landmark construction effort. In these few days since its dedication, the Cathedral of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus has been recognized around the world. People in Poland, other countries in Europe, and Australia have recently read about and seen photos of this structure dedicated to our Faith. I am grateful for the efforts of all the workers who helped make this happen, and to Merit for leading the way." Bishop Richard F. Stika The Roman Catholic Diocese of Knoxville
The new Sacred Heart Cathedral is being constructed on the Sacred Heart campus which was established in 1953. The original Parish Hall opened in 1956. Work will include worship space for 1,000 which will serve the needs of the parish and the growing diocese for generations. Work will also include renovation of the current church into a new meeting center. A new road, bridge, parking, and circulation plan with additional campus site work to prepare for future elements of the overall master plan for the cathedral campus and school.
