Merit Celebrates 30 Years of Construction in East Tennessee

This month, Merit Construction, Inc. celebrates 30 years as one of East Tennessee’s most successful contractors. From retail projects to office buildings, industrial plants to medical facilities, educational buildings to houses of worship, Merit has constructed or renovated more than $1 billion of construction projects in the last three decades.

In this highly competitive field, Merit has made a significant impact on the face of our region, thanks to our employees and their dedication and hard work. Merit was founded by the late Charles A. (Charlie) Hays, who continued to be active in the business until his death in 2002. It is now locally owned by 10 principals, all of whom are active in the day-to-day operation of the business.

We are also dedicated to giving back to the community that has contributed to our success. Members of the Merit team sit on a variety of industry and trade boards. We also give our time and resources to organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, United Way, Boy Scouts of America, East Tennessee Historic Society, and the Appalachian Service Project in order to help make our region a better place to live, work, and play.

“We are proud to be a part of the East Tennessee construction industry. Many of our clients are repeat customers and much of our business comes from referrals from those same satisfied clients. The success we’ve seen over the past 30 years is an accumulation of hundreds of satisfied customers and successful projects — a direct result of the hard work, talent, and commitment of the entire Merit team.”
