Merit Construction, Inc. is an award-winning Knoxville based General Construction firm more than 40 years of experience. We currently have a full-time opening for a Project Executive.
The position requirements include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following: Responsible for coordinating the activities across multiple construction projects. This position is responsible for and will be held accountable for the projects, project teams, and ensuring that Merit’s principals and processes are followed to achieve the best possible project results. This position is also responsible for retaining existing clients through client stewardship and providing support as a resource for new client development activities.
Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Leadership – Directly manage project teams on assigned projects, including planning, assigning, & scheduling work, reviewing work & ensuring quality standards are achieved, providing training & overseeing productivity, and offering recommendations on hiring, terminations, pay increases, and promotions.
- Mentorship and Capability Development – Foster the growth of those managed by establishing clear expectations of their roles & holding them accountable for their results, providing regular feedback on performance, suggesting self-development work, and ensuring proper training is completed so that they are equipped to perform at their best.
- Preconstruction – Lead and manage the project preconstruction process to secure projects with existing and new clients under favorable and profitable terms and conditions, understanding and accounting for applicable risk factors.
- Project Performance – Accountable for the overall performance of assigned projects, project performance will be measured in the following ways:
- Safety: Safety on our jobsites is our #1 focus. The Project Executive plays an integral role and will collaborate with the Director of Safety in leading project teams to adhere to our safety policies, procedures, and practices. We will never place profits ahead of the safety of all personnel on our jobsites.
- Quality: Selecting subcontractors and suppliers, reviewing architect and engineers field reports, and helping find solutions for issues that may arise though out a project.
- Customer Satisfaction: Building and maintaining strong customer relationships is vital to the success of our company. The Project Executive is responsible for implementing a client stewardship plan for assigned existing clients and performing customer development activities for potential new clients / projects.
- Financial: The Project Executive plays a critical role in managing project finances. Responsible for holding project teams accountable for managing costs, following change management & project cost accounting procedures and preparing accurate monthly reporting on the financial health of projects.
- Standard Operating Procedures: The Project Executive is responsible for project team performance and project outcomes including compliance with company processes and systems designed to lead to project success.
- Schedules: The Project Executive plays an integral role in the creation of project schedules.Responsible for thoroughly understanding schedule status of assigned projects, the Project Executive hold project teams accountable for following the schedule and maintaining & updating the schedule by doing near term scheduling with the team as well as reviewing the overall project schedule.
- Risk Management -The Project Executive will be actively involved with project teams anticipating and mitigating risks. Activities include contract review, subcontractor qualifications, change management, helping project teams with unique challenges, and safety.
- Communication – Clearly communicates the company’s mission, vision, and values to project teams so they understand their role in achieving company objectives. Facilitates good communication within project teams via regularly scheduled, valuable meetings. Ensures that lessons learned are documented and communicated to avoid repeating lessons learned.
Essential Skills, Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required in technical fields such as Construction Management, Engineering, or Architecture
- Subject matter expert in specialized areas preferred (such as healthcare, education, multi-family, etc.)
- 15+ years of progressively increasing related work experience with a proven track record of securing & completing projects that result in a high level of client satisfaction.
- Full working knowledge and understanding of Merit culture including staff value, the overall leadership style, the terminology used in the organization, the formal processes, and procedures, as well as how the organization defines success
- Working knowledge of construction operations
- Advanced analytical, project/process management, and technical skills
- Advanced written and oral communication skills
- Basic computer, office administrative and office equipment operation skills
